Solar flare to cause geomagnetic disturbance
The Bureau of Meteorology's Space Weather Branch has issued a geomagnetic disturbance warning.
A solar flare heading for Earth around 4 pm Thursday 8 March may cause various geomagnetic issues including communication faults in the wireless and radio spectrums, power failure and brownouts, computer failure and satellite communication and GPS faults.
The solar flare activity will increase over the next 18 months and has been said to be the largest in the last five years.
