2013 National Science Week

Wednesday, 07 November, 2012

Minister for Science and Research Senator Chris Evans has opened applications for National Science Week 2013 - an annual celebration of all things science.

A total of $500,000 will be spent through the Gillard government’s Inspiring Australia initiative to provide grants between $2000 to $25,000 to organisations and community groups to design and develop events for the Week.

Senator Evans said National Science Week gives future scientists, mathematicians and researchers the chance to experience science first hand.

“The Gillard government is committed to encouraging the next generation of Australians to choose a career in science, mathematics, engineering and research, and National Science Week gives them a chance to have a practical, hands-on experience of science for themselves,” Senator Evans said.

“National Science Week is a chance to learn more about the everyday impacts of science on our everyday lives and how they can be involved.

“About 1.4 million Australians attended more than 1000 events across the country during this year’s National Science Week, and next year promises to be even bigger and better.

“Science is at the heart of ensuring a strong economy, developing a healthy environment and improving our quality of life, and National Science Week plays a major part in delivering that.”

National Science Week will be held from 10 to18 August 2013. Applications close on 26 November 2012.

Information and guidelines for applicants are on the National Science Week website.
