Airbus lands Hungary Tetra contract
A major maintenance contract for Hungary’s Tetra network has been signed by Airbus Defence and Space and its partner Pro-M to maintain the nation’s digital radio system over the next five years.
The Unified Digital Radio System (UDRS — or EDR in the Hungarian language) was deployed by Airbus Defence and Space in 2006 and currently covers approximately 99% of the country.
EDR plays an important role in enabling the cooperation of Hungarian public safety organisations.
Olivier Koczan, head of secure land communications at Airbus Defence and Space, said the signing of the contract will ensure Airbus Defence and Space continues to guarantee the EDR networks high performance.
“Hungary’s emergency and security services rely heavily on the communications provided by EDR,” said Koczan.
“This contract is tangible proof that Tetra continues to be the best technology for mobile voice communication in the public safety sector ... and that our customers count on our know-how in mission-critical communications systems, laying the foundations for future developments.”
The EDR is used by around 44,000 users from public safety agencies, such as the police, border guards, fire service, catastrophe prevention, ambulance, armed forces and security services, who all work towards safeguarding national security.
The frame contract is scheduled for 2020.
