AMSA to hold NAV18 conference
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) will hold the NAV18 conference on the Gold Coast in May, with the aim of exploring ‘the future of safe navigation as emerging technologies gain momentum across the maritime sector’.
The conference will consider how technology will affect modern aids to navigation, vessel systems and people working in the industry.
“Advances such as e-navigation and real-time vessel tracking systems are streamlining the way maritime authorities and shipboard teams gather and exchange information — presenting both opportunities and challenges for safety and performance outcomes,” said Mick Kinley, the CEO of AMSA.
“In the broader context, more digitisation brings with it greater exposure to cyber threats and the need for industry to consider security measures alongside technological development,” he added.
“For AMSA, this means we need to embed Australian Government guidance and practices on information and cybersecurity in our approach to regulation of navigation systems and standards development.”
NAV18 will be held at the Sofitel Broadbeach on the Gold Coast from 1 to 3 May 2018.
