Barrett Communications wins comms contract in the CIS
Barrett Communications has announced it has received a significant contract to supply PRC-2090 Tactical HF (high frequency) radio communications systems in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) as part of the region’s ongoing move towards modernising communications infrastructure.
These systems, to be supplied in various configurations, will be used in both voice and data modes via Barrett’s CLOVER modems.
The company said this contract, which will also include in-country training, represents the fourth communications contract in recent years from an unnamed government in the CIS, an association of former Soviet republics.
“The customer is very happy with the ease of use and reliability of the products,” said Barrett Communications Managing Director Greg O’Neill.
“They are particularly impressed that HF Manpack units previously supplied have operated successfully in heavy snow at -20°C and the fierce summer heat.”
Barrett Communications previously won contracts to supply Barrett 2075 High power 1 kW base stations, which can be remotely controlled via microwave from control centres up to 50 kilometres away. These systems were also integrated into existing Soviet era encrypted data modems.
The company was also tasked to supply PRC-2090 Tactical HF Manpacks, PRC-2091 Tactical HF mobile vehicle systems and PRC-2092 Tactical HF base stations.
