C4i goes to great heights to test RIU
C4i has completed Mil-Std-810 altitude qualification testing for its radio interface unit.
The assessment involved running the RIU at an extremely low temperature, in a decompressed chamber, continuously for seven days.
Altitude testing is performed to determine whether the hardware in question can withstand and operate in a low-pressure environment. As the assessment mimics the effects that a high-altitude setting would cause, the RIU has proved its environmental survivability and the ability to function at great heights.
It is already in operation with ground-based communications systems, both fixed and mobile. This testing now allows the radio gateway to be used in airborne situations.
