Call for papers - Comms Connect 2015 events in Sydney and Melbourne

Comms Connect (WFevents)
Thursday, 13 November, 2014

Organisers are calling for expressions of interest to present case studies and technology submissions at the Comms Connect conferences in 2015.

The Sydney Comms Connect will be held on 3-4 June, while the Melbourne Comms Connect will be held over 1-3 December.

Case studies can target a specific end-user group, eg, mining or public safety, or may be a more general paper with broader audience appeal. Target audiences for presentations include:

  • Transportation - road, rail operators, ports and airports, taxis and buses
  • Public safety/Emergency management - including all agencies and volunteer organisations
  • Utilities - water, gas and power generation
  • Resources - mining, oil and gas
  • Government - including customs and excise, defence and military, environment
  • Enterprise
  • Commercial - retail, construction, venues, health facilities, hospitality etc

Technology papers must not be vendor specific or sales oriented. Papers that take an agnostic approach - focusing on technology, its application and convergence with other applications and technologies - with case studies included will be selected for inclusion where possible.

Training workshops may have multiple presenters from different organisations and you may be asked to work with industry colleagues to deliver a training workshop. Topics for consideration for workshops include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing apps for business- and mission-critical users
  • Cybersecurity - protecting your critical systems and networks
  • Next-generation mobile networks
  • LMR/RF for the IT professional
  • Project management fundamentals
  • Wireless backhaul - from microwave to IP
  • The basics of system planning and procurement
  • The pros and cons of BYOD
  • Spectrum and signal optimisation
  • IoT - the Internet of Things - what you need to know
  • Software-defined networking
  • Distributed antennas system fundamentals
  • Spatial and situational awareness
  • Social media - its use and application in emergency management

More information and instructions on how to submit a paper are available on the Comms Connect website.
