A round-up of the week's critical communications and public safety radio news for Friday, 23 January 2015.

Text-to-000 gains momentum. Governments, telcos and consumer groups are calling for action on an update to the 000 service to accommodate text messages, picture or video options and locations services.

Sepura for soccer club. The Cambridge United Football Club has chosen Sepura DMR for its communications. Hand-portables, plus remote speaker microphones, will be supplied by Sepura's channel partner Direct Telecom Services. The radios will be officially used for the first time during the upcoming FA Cup match between Cambridge United and Manchester United, on Friday, 23 January 2015.

Motorola to post results. Motorola Solutions will issue its fourth-quarter and full-year 2014 earnings results at approximately 6 am US CST on Wednesday, 4 February. A conference call with analysts will be held one hour later.

Tait appoints manager for Brazil. Tait Communications has appointed Luiz Daniel Salomon as general manager to lead Tait Brazil, its new Latin America hub in São Paulo. Salomon is tasked with strengthening Tait's presence and growth prospects in Latin America following the company's acquisition of long-time partner SGM Telecomunicações in September 2014.

Finland ponders TETRA for rail. Finland is considering moving its rail comms from GSM to the government-owned VIVRA TETRA network. “The investment and running costs of the VIRVE network would be significantly lower than those which would be incurred from continuing to use GSM-R, in upgrading the radio network and the communications system for traffic managers," the Ministry of Transport and Communications said in a press release.
