International regulatory news update
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has released its international regulatory news update outlining the latest goings-on in the international radiocommunications sector.
Read on for a brief overview and key dates.
ITU-R Guidelines approved
A revision of the ITU-R Guidelines for the working methods of the Radiocommunication Assembly and relevant Study Groups has been approved by the ITU Radiocommunication Advisory Group (RAG).
These guidelines, which supplement the formal working methods of the Radiocommunication Sector as detailed in resolution ITU-R 1, now take into consideration the decisions of the 2015 Radiocommunication Assembly and some amendments proposed by RAG.
New task group formed
The first session of the ITU-R Conference Preparatory Meeting (CPM19-1) recommended that Study Group 5 (SG 5) establish a Task Group (TG) to carry out relevant studies on WRC-19 agenda item 1.13. This deals with IMT identifications above 24.25 GHz.
At its most recent meeting on 9 May, SG 5 formally agreed to establish TG 5/1 for this purpose and appointed Cindy-Lee Cook from canada as Chairman of TG 5/1.
Aussies head to Geneva
An Australian delegation of seven is attending the ITU-R TG 5/1, SG 5 and Working Parties (WPs) 5A, B and C meetings in Geneva, held from 9–25 May 2016.
SG 5 studies terrestrial radiocommunication services and these first meetings will set the direction and scope of the group’s work. No doubt there’ll be more on this to come.
ACMA hosting Preparatory Group for WRC-19
The ACMA will host its first Preparatory Group meeting for WRC-19 (PG WRC19-1), to be held in Canberra on 10 June.
This meeting will establish the coordination groups for the new study cycle and preparations for the first meeting of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity Conference Preparatory Group for WRC-19 (APG19-1), to be held from 26–28 July in Chengdu, China.
