Leonardo partners with Alea for MC comms
Aerospace, defence and security company Leonardo has signed an agreement with Alea, an Italian firm specialising in mission-critical communication software, for the joint development of broadband solutions for the public security and professional communications markets.
The company said the solutions developed will leverage the specifications developed by the 3GPP for mission-critical communications on LTE: mission-critical push-to-talk (MC-PTT), mission-critical video (MC-Video) and mission-critical data (MC-Data).
In a statement, Leonardo said the agreement signed is “part of a strategy of evolution for the professional communications market, characterised by growing demand for narrowband and broadband integrated solutions adhering to international standards”.
The company added that although mission-critical communications in Europe based upon TETRA will remain “the best operational choice for many years to come”, the ability to connect to LTE and 5G in future “is becoming a must”.
“Leonardo fully understands these additional needs and is able to play a key role in the evolution path towards next-generation mission-critical mobile services,” the company said.
