LTE news: Taiwan considers 2.6 GHz; Verizon goes underground
According to press reports, the government of Taiwan is considering allocating 2.6 GHz bands for TD-LTE or TDD LTE and FDD LTE mobile services.
A sizeable fraction of the 2.6 GHZ band is currently being used by four Taiwanese WiMAX operators, so any reassignment would require negotiations to shift those operators to other bands.
China has been encouraging use of TD-LTE, so it’s feasible that the government of Taiwan might piggyback on the benefits of a growing TD-LTE industry.
Meanwhile, Verizon has announced that it is now providing consumer LTE services in 35 Manhattan subway stations. As reported by Critical Comms last year, Transit Wireless is rolling out subway communications infrastructure across the entire New York subway system.
