Norway's public safety comms agency shuffled
Norway’s Directorate for Emergency Communication (DNK) — operator of the Nødnett nationwide digital radio network for emergency and public safety services — has been transferred to the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB).
According to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, the aim of the move is to align public safety communications more closely with other public safety areas.
The change is expected to be completed by 1 March 2017 at the latest.
DNK’s director, Mr Tor Helge Lyngstøl, will become part of DSB’s management team.
“DSB has a broad coordination responsibility within public safety and civil protection, and this is a good basis for the further development of Nødnett,” said Lyngstøl.
“I look forward to contribute to the realisation of critical communication as an integral part of the Norwegian civil protection work.”
