Prof Hugh Bradlow to give opening keynote address at RadioComms Connect
Telstra’s chief technology officer, Prof Hugh Bradlow, will take to the stage at RadioComms Connect conference, 4 December, to give the opening keynote address for 2012.
Bradlow is responsible for investigating the future technologies that will impact Telstra’s business and his paper ‘Not all networks are created equal’ looks at how the demand for mobile services has moved on from telephony to data and the mobile internet.
He says in his paper, “We are already on the cusp of the next big revolution, namely the use of mobile technologies for machine-to-machine (M2M) communications whereby everything becomes smart and communicates. Devices from cars, to consumer electronics, to sensors will have modems built into them and will be reporting and controlled via the mobile network. The sheer scale of the public cellular network will tend to ensure that specialised networks used for such communications today will become obsolete.
“The upshot of this relentless change in consumer and business demand for mobile networks will continue to put pressure on mobile network coverage and capacity. When lives and livelihood literally depend on the network, you cannot afford to lose connectivity due to coverage holes or network congestion.
“How these requirements are satisfied will depend on an increasingly complex set of technology choices. The way in which mobile networks evolve will continue to differentiate the networks of different service providers. In this presentation, we shall look at the changing demand for mobile services and the evolution of network technology to meet these demands.”
The exhibition is open to pre-registered visitors from 10 am-6 pm on Tuesday and 10 am-4 pm on Wednesday.
