Satellite communication for outback Australia
DeLorme, a personal satellite messaging, tracking and navigation technology company, has partnered with the Kimberley Group, a provider of special purpose RVs and sustainable camping equipment in Australia.
They have come together to provide the inReach two-way satellite communication solution to Australia.
As an authorised reseller, Kimberley will provide devices and the DeLorme explore service portal directly to users who travel in remote places. The company will also provide premium services including a tyre replacement locator and fuel and water locator in conjunction with their track4ever outback resource system.
Launched in 2011, inReach is a satellite communications solution with two-way SOS alerting and personal text messaging, message delivery confirmation and remote GPS follow-me/find-me tracking and locating capabilities. It also interfaces wirelessly with Android and Apple smart mobile devices. The device is compact, lightweight, waterproof, buoyant, impact-resistant and can maintain satellite signal lock even in difficult GPS environments.
The device operates over the Iridium satellite network, providing global two-way satellite communications, high network reliability and low-latency data links (less than 60 s delivery of messages end-to-end) anywhere on Earth, even in areas outside of traditional cellular coverage.
“Establishing this partnership with Kimberley will expand inReach’s presence into Australia and opens the door to growth in the camping and RV markets,” said Patrick Shay, DeLorme Vice President and General Manager.
“As a two-way communications solution powered by a reliable satellite network, the inReach is a simple, cost-effective way to offer this crucial service in the Australian outback and provide added peace of mind for Kimberley’s customers.”
Kimberley CEO Bruce Loxton said, “The comprehensive two-way features of inReach will provide the communications link that so many of our customers have been waiting for. In addition, our track4ever premium service will give travellers the convenience of locating wheels and tyres, fuel and water at the nearest available point.”
