Solar-powered recharger for mobile devices seeks local distributor

An engineer from Korea is seeking Australian and international distributors for his solar-powered mobile device rechargers, which he expects will change the way we use mobile devices.

Man Geun Lee’s rechargers are about the same size as a common mobile phone and can be plugged into a device for a full recharge, as long as it’s daytime. They can be used with many mobile devices, including phones, iPods, digital cameras and laptops — he even has a stealth model for use in the armed forces.

Lee said the idea from the device came from the tension between the size of mobile batteries and the complexity of the devices they can support.

He is hoping to find an Australian company to distribute and service these products in Australia and internationally.

Lee says the major difference between his products and the opposition is the price.

“Other differences include the conversion efficiency or charging time,” he said. “With a solar cell conversion efficiency of 21.5%, they are about 30% more efficient than their nearest competitors.”

Lee believes his technology will change our way of life. As mobile devices increase in complexity, they require more power, which increases their battery size, making them bigger rather than the preferred smaller. His mobile rechargers will mean manufacturers can keep battery size down.

“They will free mobile telephone travellers from having to plug into international electricity points, and free the outdoor adventurous type from having to worry about power requirements,” he said.
