ABI assesses top DAS vendors
Market intelligence firm ABI Research has released its latest DAS Vendor Competitive Assessment. Topping the assessment is CommScope, which is followed by TE Connectivity, Axell, Corning and SOLiD. The firm estimates that these five vendors now account for more than half of the market.
Axell was named the most innovative company due to idDAS (Intelligent Digital DAS), which represents a significant change in DAS technology and offers DAS owners and operators significant CAPEX savings.
TE Connectivity was the second-most innovative vendor, earning high scores across all criteria. The company made a recent announcement with Alcatel-Lucent on CPRI interfaces between Alcatel-Lucent’s mobile Ultra-Broadband access portfolio and the TE FlexWave DAS. It also introduced the FlexWave AIP, resulting in a highly innovative DAS roadmap.
Corning was third in the list for its Small Cell and HetNet support due to the CorningONE platform and its MobileAccess portfolio.
In the implementation category, CommScope scored the top result due in large part to its global presence and legacy business in North America and a significant European footprint. TE Connectivity was second, again driven by market share and geographical penetration.
ABI’s third choice in the implementation category was Axell, which is said to be the largest DAS vendor in Europe, a global leader in public safety and transportation systems and a growing presence in North America. With financial and technical backing from its parent company, Cobham, ABI expects Axell to challenge for the top spot.
“The DAS equipment market is hyper competitive and since we last published a Competitive Assessment in 2012 there have been several changes to the vendor ecosystem with exits, divestitures and acquisitions,” said Nick Marshall, principal analyst. “Since we expect the North American market for DAS to grow rapidly, it becomes the battleground for market share and innovation for modern DAS systems.”
