Airbus and TC Connect oversee Norwegian TETRA integration
Modernisation has begun on the Norwegian public warning system, after Airbus Defence and Space and TC Connect were awarded the major contract.
TETRA TMD880i modems will be integrated into more than 1200 siren sites on the national digital radio network Nødnett.
The Norwegian Ministry of Justice opted to integrate the warning system into the TETRA-based Nødnett network due to the fact that current technology will shortly expire.
TC Connect played a key role in designing the cabinet for the control unit that is called ‘VRIO’. It combines the TETRA TMD880i modem with a remote terminal unit. The company also developed the program’s software, with regular update services included in the project’s scope. Installation began in autumn 2016 and will continue throughout 2017.
“Following our recent deliveries of handheld TH1n slimline radios to the healthcare sector and P8GR TETRA pagers to the firefighters, this is yet another good example of innovative solutions we are providing together with TC Connect to the Norwegian market,” Airbus Defence and Space Partner Sales and New Solutions Manager Anna Hyyrynen said.
The TDM880i modem transfers high volumes of data to the TETRA network. It also tracks vehicles with GPS positioning in real time. The modem interface can be managed remotely via smart grid or supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).
Since 2008, TC Connect has been a business partner of Airbus Defence and Space.
