Ethiopia Electric Utility deploys Motorola Solutions' LMR
Motorola Solutions’ P25 LMR system has been deployed in Addis Ababa, in a bid to improve the safety of the Ethiopia Electric Utility (EEU) company’s grid operations and maintenance staff.
It will also help elevate the level of service for millions of customers in the region and facilitate communication between hundreds of service, repair and restoration workers, according to Motorola Solutions.
The provider said some of the core communication sites are powered by a hybrid electric and solar-powered system and include a backup energy solution, ensuring communications are available at all times. The radio system is designed to be scalable, allowing the EEU to expand coverage to other regions.
EEU CEO Shiferae Telila said: “As a grid operator, two of our major concerns are the safety of our employees and the service we provide our customers. In order to achieve both, it’s crucial to have a reliable communications system to support our teams’ mission-critical needs. Our uncompromising approach to safety led us to choose a system deployed by top mission-critical users globally.”
Motorola Solutions’ East Africa Region Manager, Yuval Hanan, said: “We are proud to partner with Ethiopia’s national electric utility company, helping them in their mission to provide better service to their customers while keeping the safety of their employees.”
