Fujitsu awarded contract for Tasmanian emergency dispatch system
Fujitsu has been awarded the contract with the Tasmanian Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management for the implementation of a new computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system, the first unified system for the state's emergency services.
Currently there are three non-integrated CAD systems operating in Tasmania — Tasmania Police (TasPol), Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) and Ambulance Tasmania (AT).
The State Emergency Service (SES) also operates a manual process and relies on TasPol and TFS for support.
Fujitsu’s Emergency Services Computer Aided Dispatch (ESCAD) system will be leveraged across Tasmania’s emergency services to better coordinate critical responses between fire, ambulance, SES and police organisations.
ESCAD will manage emergency incidents from the initial notification of an incident until its conclusion, providing a valuable resource for call-takers, dispatchers, supervisors and first responders due to its ability to track the status and location of resources and analyse responses post-incident.
The Tasmanian Government revealed last July it would invest over $15 million to deliver an integrated emergency response system for the state.
The contract requires Fujitsu to also provide support and maintenance for five years following the implementation of the system, bringing the total cost to $15.3 million.
Local Tasmanian company Synateq has also been secured to partner with Fujitsu to deliver the project.
The ESCAD system will consist of Capita’s VISION CAD system software, as well as implementation services, configuration and customisation, interface development and training materials.
ESCAD is currently in use by emergency services organisations in NSW, Queensland and ACT.
