Germany recertifies Sepura radios

Germany’s Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) has signed a public service contract with Sepura and Hytera for continued use of Sepura’s TETRA digital radios.

The move comes after a “careful and diligent examination” of radios used on the German Agency for Digital Radio of Security Authorities and Organisations (BDBOS) digital radio network following the acquisition of Sepura plc by Hytera.

German government authorities and public safety organisations are only allowed to operate radio terminal equipment that has been certified as suitable by BDBOS.

The certificates for Sepura devices already certified by the BDBOS remain in force, and so agencies may continue to use these devices. Certification of new software for existing Sepura SRG and STP terminals as well as the certification of the new SC2 series of radio terminals was issued by BDBOS on 16 March 2018.

In February last year, SELECTRIC — Sepura’s distributor for Germany and point of contact for BDBOS — was awarded a contract by the state of Thuringia to provide digital radios for the fire and rescue service.

“We are pleased that we are able to continue successful cooperation with the federal government and the federal states following more than 10 years of working together,” said Hendrik Pieper, managing director of SELECTRIC.

“This agreement allows us to further expand our market leadership together with Sepura. With more than 380,000 digital radio terminals delivered in the German public safety market, not only Sepura devices, but also SELECTRIC’s own system-complementary products are part of the success.”

Sepura plc, Cambridge (UK) remains the independent and responsible entity for the development of TETRA terminals as part of the Hytera group, while Sepura Germany GmbH, based in Munich, continues as a Sepura subsidiary.
