Motorola extends Moldovan police TETRA network

A nationwide TETRA communications network will be implemented by Motorola Solutions for police in Moldova.

Within the framework of the contract with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Motorola Solutions will extend the existing TETRA digital radio network and build a nationwide TETRA network for the Moldovan police.

The project will be implemented by 2020 in collaboration with the local subcontractor Bass Systems and funded by the EU Budget Support. As part of this program, the police in the south-eastern European country will be provided with a secure, reliable and efficient communications system that can be extended to other services at a later stage.

In order to extend and upgrade the existing TETRA network in Moldova, Motorola Solutions will provide the public safety organisations with its new DIMETRA X Core TETRA system and additional TETRA infrastructure equipment including its MTS1 and MTS4 TETRA base stations, as well as microwave links for IP connectivity. The futureproof TETRA digital radio system and infrastructure will enable the Moldovan police to provide increased public safety for the citizens of the Republic.

“Our technology enables the police in Moldova to stay connected when seconds count, and to focus on their mission to make cities and communities safer,” said Michael Kaae, vice president MSSSI Northern & Eastern Europe at Motorola Solutions.

With its modern architecture, DIMETRA X Core is built for the future today. The advanced capabilities of the technology enable the public safety organisations in Moldova to quickly and easily expand their user base and to move to mobile broadband when the time is right. DIMETRA X Core features a software-defined core and smart interfaces, so the Moldovan police benefits with long-term performance for the next 15 years or more.

“The mission-critical TETRA communications systems and infrastructure from Motorola Solutions will allow us to realise an important objective of our police reform: creating a reliable and efficient communications system for best operational practice within the police,” said Alexandru Jizdan, Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Moldova.
