Ports tie up TETRA system
Teltronic has supplied TETRA solutions to two of Asia’s fastest growing container ports — Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia, and Pusan Newport, South Korea.
Working with local partner Jebsen & Jessen Technology, Teltronic carried out extensive studies of coverage and operational requirements for Tanjung port to guarantee the best possible, round-the-clock communications.
Not only is the Nebula infrastructure able to handle increased traffic in a confined space but it also allows users to possibly integrate TETRA into its corporate network, connect with external systems (ie, PBX) and form part of a common IT platform.
TETRA, in general, also allows more services such as messaging, GPS tracking etc. Teltronic’s latest-generation 3 W hand-portable, the HTT-500, also eliminates potential gaps in coverage which had been identified during tests with existing 1 W portables.
Ports have specific requirements which challenge traditional communications providers:
- Operations are concentrated on a single site;
- The RF environment is constantly changing as containers stacked up to five high are loaded and unloaded;
- Technology such as TETRA that allows for future expansions as traffic increases and modus operandum changes;
- Health and safety, and international security requirements are essential components of all systems in today’s heightened security environment.
