Qld police deploys 2200 more body-worn cameras
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) recently purchased 2200 Axon Flex cameras from Axon Public Safety Australia, a subsidiary of TASER International. As the third-largest police agency in the country, QPS now has a total deployment of 2700 cameras on Axon’s Evidence.com cloud solution.
“We are incredibly excited to be the first police service in Australia to secure the latest law enforcement technology from Axon Public Safety,” said Queensland Police Service’s acting Inspector, Wayne Hutchings. “We look forward to seeing the positive impact these cameras will bring to our agency and community, including better evidence and increased transparency between police and public.”
“By fully equipping their officers with our Axon cameras and Evidence.com solution, the Queensland Police is revolutionising their agency with the latest technological advancements of the 21st century,” said Rick Smith, CEO and co-founder of TASER. “TASER is proud to continue leading the innovation of law enforcement technology and we are delighted to share the power and the potential of our products with Queensland, its officers and the Australian law enforcement community. Our newest office in Sydney, Australia, has given us the wonderful opportunity to impact and support the Asia–Pacific region.”
The platform helps police capture, manage and share their digital evidence without needing to install in-house servers. Cameras can be attached securely to uniforms/shirts, sunglasses, a cap, a shirt collar or a head mount. They are powered by a pocket-size battery pack, which ensures recording capability during an entire shift. When recording, the cameras capture a wide-angle, full-colour view of what an officer is facing. The video automatically uploads via a docking station to Evidence.com, a cloud-based storage and management system, where it can be easily accessed for review. The video files stored online or on the video camera are secure and include a chain of custody with audit trails.
