RSM New Zealand announces developments in 2.5 GHz, AM, FM and 700 MHz
In its latest monthly update, Radio Spectrum Management (RSM) New Zealand says it has received an application for access to the 2.5 GHz managed spectrum park band, for which potential uses include wireless broadband.
The application for Managed Spectrum Park (MSP) licences, which covers parts of the Wellington City Council TLA, came from Korderas Ltd.
RSM says that since November 2010, “parties interested in utilising this spectrum have been able to apply for access on a first-come, first-served basis, but with sharing processes required to be gone through by applicants”.
Also covered in the monthly update was the announcement by Communications and Information Technology Minister Amy Adams that more than 100 commercial licences for AM and FM radio broadcasting will be auctioned later this year, with tenure extending to 2031.
The minister said that “a number of the current commercial licences had been allocated temporarily and will expire in September, before the auction takes place. Transitional arrangements for these licence holders will be advised shortly.”
The auction will provide certainty to broadcasters and may enable some additional radio broadcasting coverage. The licences to be auctioned are predominantly located outside of main metropolitan areas.
A provisional list of the licences to be auctioned is available here.
