UAE receives Airbus TETRA technology
Atlas Telecom has received the latest TETRA modem from Airbus for border security in the United Arab Emirates.
The TW1m modem will be used with a next-generation electronic verification system for maritime and border security.
It will integrate confidential data, such as GPS positioning and text messages, into the Atlas vessel identification system, which is run by a government agency.
“We convinced our partner Atlas with the TETRA modem’s permanent availability and outstanding security features. Our components meet all the essential specifications set by the UAE government institutions,” said Selim Bouri, head of Middle East for Secure Land Communications at Airbus.
Markets in the Middle East are increasingly breaking new ground for the entire global professional mobile radio industry. The region is at the forefront of the professional mobile radio development and Airbus applies its leading hybrid technology, combining TETRA and LTE.
The Airbus TW1m transmits voice and data safely due to end-to-end encryption and can be incorporated in supervisory systems, custom telemetry and position tracking. The TW1m is an extremely secure solution, especially when other communication systems are not in operation.
As the TW1m is part of the new electronic verification system, it contributes to the tracking and identification of registered and unregistered ships off the UAE coast. The next-generation electronic verification set-up consists of radars, long-range cameras, e-Passport trackers, location and correlation servers as well as command and control systems. Atlas has been operating the first generation of this technology for 10 years and is soon to establish its new scheme.
