Defence gets $25 million upgrade to improve HF comms

Tuesday, 08 July, 2014

The federal government has signed a multimillion-dollar contract with Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) to improve the military’s HF communications capability.

The contract, which is valued at more than $25 million, builds upon a concept further developed and tested by South Australian-based firm Ebor Computing.

The developments saw significant signal improvement and direction finding in support of HF communications that will allow improved and more reliable communications worldwide.

The capability will be delivered by BDA under Project Nullarbor, with Ebor Computing acting as a subcontractor to BDA.

The Minister for Defence, Senator David Johnston, said the contract with BDA “will also see substantial savings on the support of existing equipment”.

The work has involved Boeing Defence Australia, Ebor Computing, Alcatel-Lucent and the Defence Materiel Organisation.
