Marine comms workshop explores e-Navigation future
Demos can now be submitted for an ETSI workshop focusing on the evolution of marine communication.
The workshop will explore how the e-Navigation concept and the evolution of GMDSS affect marine radiocommunication and navigation standardisation in the mid/long term.
This takes into account future requirements in terms of capacity/rate for data transmission as well as security aspects, which are essential for improving maritime safety.
The idea of e-Navigation is to require marine traffic to be regulated and controlled, much as air traffic is by Air Traffic Control. It is envisaged that e-Navigation will play a major role in the future development and evolution of the global maritime distress and safety system (GMDSS).
The ETSI Workshop on Future Evolution of Marine Communication is an important event for professionals who are working on the development of e-Navigation, as well as organisations that have an interest in the development and standardisation of an integrated system.
In parallel with the workshop, the event will include a number of demos on e-Navigation-related technologies. The call for demos (tabletop exhibits) is now open and proposals should be submitted by 25 September 2017.
The event will take place from 7–8 November 2017 in ETSI, Sophia Antipolis, France. For more information, click here.
