TETRA hits the slopes at Biathlon World Championships 2016
TETRA technology deployed by Airbus Defence and Space has provided fast and secure communications for organising personnel during the Biathlon World Championships 2016, recently held in Oslo Holmenkollen, Norway.
Over 250 Airbus Defence and Space TETRA radios THR9i and THR880i were used during the skiing championships, as well as 26 base stations and several RCS 9500 dispatching consoles, under local TETRA network operator TC Connect Norway.
From 2–13 March, event organiser International Biathlon Union (IBU) relied on the mobile radio communication equipment to coordinate hundreds of event personnel, including security, medical teams, drivers and volunteers.
Over 125,000 tickets were sold to skiing fans who descended on the Holmenkollen site in Oslo for the championships.
“We appreciate that Airbus Defence and Space contributes to our significant tournament. The organising committee relies on a radio communication infrastructure that had stood the test of time at other large sports events,” said Erik Trosby, chief of communications for the local organising committee.
In addition to TETRA radios and accessories, Airbus said its DXT3c switch was used in Oslo. It has in-built redundancy and offers high availability of radio network capacity.
The robust mobile radio devices were developed for critical voice and data communication. Airbus said they are particularly known and chosen for their ease of use and intuitive operation.
