AA Radio desktop radio for D.E.P.I. Radio Replacement Project
AA Radio has completed the supply of a desktop radio for the D.E.P.I. Radio Replacement Project in Victoria.
The unit integrates a mobile radio for desktop operation and provides UPS functionality using an internal battery for shorter time requirements, and the option of plugging a large external battery for extended periods of mains failure. The charging of both batteries and mains failover/restoration is done using a custom-built intelligent charger and power supply board.
Transmit audio is provided either from the radio microphone or interfaced to the unit through an aviation-style headset. Receive audio is presented either at an internal speaker in the unit or the headset. PTT is also made either by the radio microphone or an optional foot switch.
As well as front panel indications, a digital signal is provided to report critical alarms to be fed to any standard remote monitoring system via email or SMS.
The unit was completely designed and built by AA Radio using local suppliers and there are several hundred now operating successfully in the field. “We are very proud of the solution and we believe it is a credit to our staff and suppliers to finishing the project on time, on budget and with a high level of quality and functionality,” said AA Radio’s David Lenehan.
