Construction is underway on the huge Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB), which will link Hong Kong at its east end to Zhuhai and Macao at its west end and will be major part of the expressway in the Pearl River Delta regional transportation loop.

As well as long cable-stayed sections, the project also involves many kilometres of tunnels, as well as the establishment of artificial islands. Strong radio signal coverage of all these elements, above and under the sea, is crucial for smooth and efficient communication during and after construction.

Hytera has provided RD980 repeaters, which support analog and digital operating modes to interconnect for voice cross patching, and IP67-standard PD70X two-way radios.

Currently, the construction of the HZMB is at the tube tunnel immersion stage; the overall project is due for completion in 2015, with opening planned for 2016. When finished, it will be the world’s longest six-lane immersed tube tunnel and the world’s longest highway that combines a cross-sea bridge and tunnel.

The HZMB is the first major project to be jointly developed by the governments of Guangdong Province, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Macao Special Administrative Region.
