Motorola Solutions extends P25 into more rural areas of Western Australia
Motorola Solutions has completed the rollout of a P25 digital simulcast trunked radio system in Albany, Western Australia, as part of its commitment to the WA Police.
This is part of a multiyear, multisite project to extend the reach and provide a unified, digital and centrally managed communications network for the Western Australian community.
The extension covers nearly 5000 square kilometres surrounding Albany and other population areas in the Great Southern region.
In 2011, Motorola was awarded a five-year, $40 million contract to extend the emergency services digital radio network into rural Western Australia.
The overall network covers 20,000 square kilometres surrounding Perth’s metropolitan area plus 25,000 square kilometres in regional areas including the Pilbara, mid-west, Goldfields-Esperance and south-west regions. All up, this takes in nearly 95% of the Western Australian population.
As part of a multiyear regional Community Safety Network project for a unified, centrally managed emergency communications network, the Albany extension brings WA Police a step closer toward improved inter-agency communication.
At a ceremony to mark the milestone, the Western Australia Minister for Emergency Services, Joe Francis, said that the new radio network would provide a clearer and more secure form of communication for agencies and allow them to work and inter-operate together towards a safer community and working environment.
