New Zealand’s Orion gets Tornado radios
MiMOMax Wireless has released its first ultrahigh-performance Tornado radio unit to Orion in New Zealand. Orion operates one of the largest electricity networks in the country, delivering electricity to over 193,000 homes and businesses across Canterbury. (And incidentally, Orion is soon to move into new headquarters opposite MiMOMax.)
The Tornado features high-throughput, ultrahigh spectral efficiency and intelligent network capabilities, offering an aggregate data rate of up to 640 Kbps in 25 kHz in its highest modulation mode.
Tornado is a full-duplex, software flexible, long-range, point-to-multipoint remote radio unit with built-in network features for critical network infrastructure. With scalable data rates and an efficient random access protocol, it can provide near real-time access to a large number of remote sites with high reliability and low latency.
Some key features include an integrated isolated power supply, low power consumption, built-in band pass duplexers, ethernet and RS232 interfaces, programmable I/O and alarms, remote over-the-air network management, and optional SNMP and DNP3.
Initially operating in the licensed frequency bands between 420-470 MHz, the Tornado has a wide temperature operating range and has an optional waterproof outdoor mount.
