Toronto Transit gets TETRA system

Sepura has successfully supplied a TETRA radio system to the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) for use on its extensive transport network. The system was deployed in time to support a planned two-day shutdown of one of the network’s main lines on 10 and 11 August 2013.

This initial installation marks the first time a TETRA network has been by deployed by a transport organisation in Canada and comes just two months after Sepura was awarded the contract to supply infrastructure to cover the city’s subway lines, as well as eight above-ground sites.

This standalone TETRA system will also be used for coverage verification and will be in operation during the next planned shutdown of the line - due in October - when TTC expects to finish more work on the subway.

Toronto has the third-largest public transport system in North America after New York and Mexico City, daily catering for more than 1.6 million passengers in the greater Toronto area.
