The Tough Mudder endurance challenge, to be held on Phillip Island, Melbourne in January 2013, requires tough, reliable and secure communications to enable event management staff to talk the Tough Mudder participants through the event. Simoco Australia has won the contract to supply portables and accessories for the event.

Billed as “the toughest event on the planet”, Tough Mudder is an extreme endurance event in which participants seek to complete an 18-20 km obstacle course, designed by British Special Forces, that tests strength, stamina and mental grit. As the leading company in the obstacle course industry, Tough Mudder has already challenged half a million participants worldwide, with events previously held in the US, Canada, Australia and Europe.

The first of 2013’s Australian Tough Mudder events will be held on Phillip Island, located about 140 km south-southeast from Melbourne, on Saturday 19 to Sunday 20 January, during which time the island’s Grand Prix Circuit will be converted into a 20 km military-style obstacle course.  Participants can look forward to over 20 challenging obstacles which incorporate hefty doses of mud, ice, fire and electric shocks.

Simoco will be deploying over 100 portable radios and accessories for event management staff, as well as a robust 5 Channel Conventional System to provide secure and reliable communications during set-up, event days and pack-up. Simoco already owns some antenna infrastructure on the race course, used for the Moto GP, and is delighted to be able to provide an efficient and dependable system for 100+ staff to ensure Tough Mudder runs as smoothly as possible.
