Western Europe’s tallest building receives radio services
Comtec has helped provide cellular, private mobile radio and London Fire Brigade radio services to Western Europe’s tallest building.
Standing at 309.6 m tall, The Shard has become an iconic London building; however, both its height and projected density of population means that street-level cellular and mobile radio services are not sufficient to provide the required coverage throughout the building.
Comtec is involved in ensuring that every floor of the building has reliable coverage for both cellular and mobile radio services.
“This is a very exciting project for Comtec and one that sets the benchmark of delivering cellular and mobile radio services to London’s tall buildings,” said Nick Claxson, managing director, Comtec. “We are very proud of the experience we have built in our business and this project enables us to utilise this to the full.”
The company was awarded the contract to advise, project manage and integrate both private mobile radio and radio services for the London Fire Brigade to all 72 habitable floors and to a further 15 floors in the building’s 23-storey spire.
“A building of this scale requires a reliable, core infrastructure to deliver both cellular and radio services to every floor,” said Hamish McKenzie, development director for the Sellar Property Group. “Comtec demonstrated both innovation and a high degree of competence to make this possible.”
This project is now underway with core infrastructure being delivered prior to the building opening in early 2013.
