RF Micro Devices has introduced the ML2726 ISM band transceiver, a low-power, low-IF, frequency shift key device designed for operation in the licence-free 2.4 GHz ISM band.

The reference design enables consumer product original equipment manufacturers to quickly produce products featuring wireless data connectivity for multiple applications, including game controllers, PC peripherals, automatic meter reading, security systems, telemetry and point-of-sale vending equipment.

The transceiver is an integrated RF transceiver incorporate a sigma-delta fractional-N synthesiser, voltage controlled oscillator, upconversion and downconversion mixers, data slicer and transceiver configuration registers.

By offering 2 Mbps data transmission rate, it minimises average power consumption, leading to longer battery life in portable applications.

It also incorporates self-alignment of the low-IF receiver and phase locked loop detection and control, both easing implementation and eliminating the mass production tuning process.

Features include: closed-loop transmit FSK modulation; analog and digital data output; digital transmit data input; digital received signal strength indication output; integrated power regulation enabling 2.7 to 4.5 V operation; -81 dBm sensitivity at 0.1% bit error rate.
