Measuring receiver

Rohde & Schwarz has available what it claims is an all-in-one solution for calibrating signal generators and attenuators - the measuring receiver R&S FSMR.

The instrument combines the functions of a level calibrator, modulation and audio analyser, power meter and spectrum analyser in one instrument.

Due to its high level linearity and frequency range of up to either 3.5, 26.5 or 50 GHz, the FSMR is suitable for measurement tasks in calibration, and test and measurement laboratories.

To ensure that signal generators remain compliant with specifications, they need to be checked against the manufacturer's requirements at regular intervals. The accuracy of key parameters such as output level, carrier frequency, modulation depth as well as modulation frequency and distortion need to be calibrated.

The instrument performs all measurements that are necessary for calibrating signal generators and fixed or variable attenuators. Depending on the instrument model, it can cover a frequency range from 20 Hz up to either 3.6, 26.5 or 50 GHz.

As a level calibrator, it achieves a linearity value of 0.015 dB + 0.005 dB/10 dB. The device offers a wide measurement range from +30 dBm to -130 dBm. In addition, the measurement bandwidth can be set to broad limits between 100 Hz and 10 MHz.

During level measurements, this prevents the frequency offset or residual FM of the signal generator to be calibrated from having any effect.

All modulation parameters and the DUT's modulation generator can be calibrated solely with the instrument. Modulation analyser and an audio analyser for the analog modulation modes AM, FM and PM are already integrated in the instrument.

The measuring receiver is equipped with a full-featured spectrum analyser and a power meter to which can connect to the power sensors of the R&S NRP family. In addition, the FSMR also supports power meters from other manufacturers, which it controls via an IEC/IEEE bus connection.
