Radiometrix has introduced the NiM2, a narrow band transceiver module that offers a low-power data link in the company's standard transceiver pin-out and footprint.

Its specifications make it suitable for power frugal applications where existing single frequency wideband UHF modules lack sufficient range. Data rates of up to 10 Kbps, and distances over 500 m can be supported.

The module delivers a transmit power of +10 dBm (10 mW), while its receiver sensitivity is -118 dBm (for 12 dB SINAD). Standard frequencies provided are 434.65 and 434.075 MHz, but custom versions, with frequencies occupying the 433 MHz (EU licence-exempt) band are also available. Channel spacing is 25 kHz.

The transmit section consists of an FM VCXO feeding a frequency multiplier and two-stage amplifier. The receive is a double conversion FM superjet with IF at 21.4 MHz and 455 kHz. The signal path includes SAW-based RF filtering which gives image rejection levels of 50 dB or better. The device conforms fully with both ETSI EN 300 220-3 (radio) and EN 301 489-3 (EMC) regulatory standards.
