M/A-Com's P7200 portable radios are Internet protocol (IP)-based, two-way digital radios delivering high capacity, end-to-end, digital voice and data communications. With a lightweight and robust physical package, the series demonstrates the power and flexibility associated with this line of software-defined radios.
The multi-mode radios support OpenSky, enhanced digital access communications system (EDACS), EDACS ProVoice, P25 digital and conventional analog modes at 700/800 MHz. The portables also fully satisfy mandates with regard to 6.25 kHz spectral efficiencies.
The suite includes a series of three portable radios - the P7230, P7250 and P7270 - and offers a variety of features including: multiple operating modes - they are suitable for use as either a trunked portable with P25 common air interface (CAI) or conventional FM for talk around interoperability; advanced digital trunking features - including group calls, priority scanning, pre-emptive emergency calls, late call entry, and dynamic reconfiguration; mobile data capability - can be used in high performance wireless data systems. For mobile data applications, the radios serve as an IP network node, providing end-to-end IP connectivity for an external portable computer connected to the RS232 data port. A 19.2 Kbps data airlink rate is a standard operating feature and users can talk and send or receive data on the same channel at the same time with just one radio; over-the-air programming - allows communications protocols to be changed quickly and easily and be added at any time; and encrypted communications - optional advanced encryption standard (AES) is available for maximum security.
