Sennheiser Communications has developed ActiveGard, a protection system specially designed to prevent acoustic shock from affecting the ears of frequent phone users.
All telecommunications headsets in the SH 3000 and CC 500 series are equipped with the system.
Headset users are particularly at the mercy of loudness peaks. Unlike people holding a normal phone receiver, they cannot use the quick reflex action to remove the sound source from their ear.
Frequent phone users, such as contact centre staff, run a constant risk of exposure to acoustic shock. An unexpected and extremely loud sound at the other end of the phone can be enough to cause headaches, tinnitus or even irreversible loss of hearing.
The system is also useful for long-term users who need extra concentration when receiving orders by phone for direct entry into a computer.
