Trio Datacom JS100 ethernet converter

Trio Datacom has introduced the JS100 ethernet to serial converter designed to allow communications over point to point and point to multipoint radio channels with remote devices, eg, RTU or PLC, which have ethernet data ports.

Where previously non-serial ethernet devices were excluded from a serial (RS232) network, this device allows them to communicate and become part of the network.

The converter operates as a standalone device inserted between the ethernet device or application and the serial RS232 data port of the radio modem. Ethernet data is compressed and packeted into RS232 packets which are then fed into the modem for transmission over the radio network.

The device also uses MultiStream and ChannelShare features of the company’s E and K series of data radios so that a single radio network can support multiple applications using both serial and IP-based protocols such as DNP-3, MODBUS and IEC68570-5.

The converter requires minimal configuration other than assigning an IP address for accessing the HTML interface which provides diagnostics and connectivity testing.

When paired with the E- or K-series data radio, the system designer can accommodate both serial (RS232) and ethernet devices within the same system.
