BVS releases cell tower tester
Berkeley Varitronics Systems (BVS) has released Squid-PRO, supporting all major wireless carriers including Verizon’s EVDO standard.
Squid-PRO 3G cell tower tester is a handheld receiver aimed at the wireless M2M installation market. It provides installers a real-time display of local 3G carriers’ base stations and their respective signal strength or RSSI (received signal strength indicator).
The tester identifies RSSI, carrier network and type of 3G technology (UMTS, CDMA, GSM and GPRS etc) for all four major US carriers. This data provides installers with enough information to make key installation site decisions as well as suitable antenna placement, all in an effort to choose the best mobile carrier for their particular site.
It contains multiple radios and multiband antennae for several US network carriers and no SIM activation or monthly contracts are required. The tester has a bright OLED display and integrated GPS receiver for time-stamped and geo-located measurements for further analysis.
