The MS272xC Spectrum Master series provides what is claimed to be the broadest frequency range ever provided in a handheld spectrum analyser, with frequency coverage to 43 GHz in an instrument that weighs less than 4 kg.

The series is also designed with an assortment of applications to test the RF physical layer, making it easier for field technicians, monitoring agencies and engineers to monitor over-the-air signals, locate interferers and detect hidden transmitters.

Five models, with high-end frequency coverage of 9, 13, 20, 32 and 43 GHz, are available.

The instrument eliminates the need to carry benchtop analysers into the field to measure signals above 20 GHz, such as those used in microwave backhaul applications. To further lighten the load, it is integrated with a spectrum analyser and can be ordered with a channel scanner and interference analyser to conduct all common field measurements.

A number of 3G/4G options can be incorporated into the analysers to measure LTE, HSPA+, W-CDMA, CDMA/EV-DO, GSM/EDGE, TD-SCDMA/HSDPA and WiMAX signals.

Users can monitor and measure the spectrum quickly, as it has a fast sweep time of 27 s for a 43 GHz span with a 30 kHz RBW and delivers good phase noise of -100 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset at 1 GHz and dynamic range of 104 dB.

Designed with a broadband preamplifier, the instruments have high sensitivity of -160 dBm at 1 GHz and -147 dBm at 40 GHz to detect small signals. An intuitive menu-driven screen makes it easy to conduct all measurements.

An analysis package and Master Software Tools allow users to conduct detailed evaluation of measurement data. Interference sources can be identified using built-in reporting tools, mapping, folder spectrograms and 3D spectrograms.

The series uses the Spectrum Master design, and a rugged housing can withstand the day-to-day operations associated with field use and its light weight makes it easy to carry.
