The Hioki 3490 analog insulation/continuity tester has been designed with the testing requirements of AS/NZS3017 and the domestic installation electrician in mind.
A remote control probe is available which has both a test on/off switch and an LED illuminating the area to be connected. A white LED lights up the analog scale so that it can be read in darkened areas. The standard test pins are 35 mm long with an insulating sleeve covering them and they can be used to probe conveniently at distribution boards without removing breaker covers.
The instrument is equipped with 250, 500 and 1000 V ranges provide 100 and 4000 MΩ insulation resistance ranges. The instrument also has 3 and 30 Ω resistance ranges. The 30 range is suited to the 5 and 15 Ω resistor polarity check of GPOs, while the 3 Ω range allows accurate earth loop impedance testing as specified by AS/NZS3017.
A white LED illuminates the scales which include live circuit voltage measurement to 600 AC. The tester is supplied with a flip-cover instrument case allowing the storage of plugged-in probes for added convenience and safe storage of the instrument in a toolbox.
