Motorola rumoured to soon be up for sale

Wednesday, 11 February, 2015

The rumours have been flying around for months, but opinion seems to be hardening that Motorola Solutions will soon be up for sale.

The company is a leader in the public safety communications, with its P25 and other radio systems in heavy use by emergency services and other organisations around Australia and across the globe.

Motorola presently has a market capitalisation of around US$15 billion, but it’s market performance has been stagnant for quite a while.

In the hours following news of the potential sale, its share price briefly rose by up to 8% before closing up 1% on Friday.

Companies suggested by industry watchers as possible buyers included Raytheon, Honeywell and General Dynamics.

Motorola Inc, founded in 1928, was split in two a few years ago when it sold off its consumer mobile phone division. This was followed in October 2014 when Motorola Solutions sold its enterprise business to Zebra Technologies for US$3.45 billion.
