Maxim has introduced the MAX5481-MAX5484, said to be the industry's first pin-selectable up/down or SPI-compatible, 1024-tap non-volatile digital potentiometers packaged in a 3 x 3 mm, 16 pin TQFN.

The integrated EEPROM simulates mechanical potentiometers by storing the wiper position before power down.

This reduces size compared to mechanical pots. The family also offers ratiometric and end-to-end temperature coefficients of 5 ppm/°C and 35 ppm/°C.

The devices save power by requiring less than 1 µA in standby and operating from a 2.7 to 5.25 V single supply or ±2.5 V dual supply. End-to-end resistances of 10 and 50 kohm are available.

The devices come in two wiper configurations: voltage divider or variable resistor.
