RF Micro Devices has available Polaris 2 Total Radio.

Comprising Polaris 2 transceiver and PowerStar power amplifier module, the transceiver is designed to support up to four frequency bands (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz) and performs all the radio functions of GSM, GPRS and EDGE mobile handsets.

The transceiver features a direct digital polar modulator, which reduces transmit power consumption by about 30% when compared with other transmit architectures, including direct launch and polar loop transmitters.

The transceiver transmit mode provides handset developers advantages in terms of ease of use and reduced heat dissipation and it also provides longer talk time and battery life. The device provides handset manufacturers with a highly integrated radio in a small form factor that helps reduce component count and total cost while providing good radio performance. In field tests, it achieves better than -109 dBm receive sensitivity in the low bands and better than -108 dBm in the high bands.

Good receive sensitivity helps reduce infrastructure costs and dropped calls.

In addition to receive sensitivity, the transceiver features increased dynamic range and the use of digital signal processing in the receiver for better performance in fading and blocking conditions, which also reduces dropped calls.

The device implements both very low IF and direct conversion receive architectures and provides selectable analog I/Q and digital baseband interfaces, which enables each other implementation with multiple baseband.

Additionally, by integrating voltage control oscillators and loop filter components, it provides good levels of integration.
